In early January, bubbles started to appear in the paint all over the boat. Turns out, some of the paint was applied in the damp and water has got between the coats. Total repaint required Boat being returned to SMH 31/3/2003 - Paint was redone in places. Very slap it on type job, with runs all over the place. Most unsatisfactory. Mind you, it does look good from a distance, some people have said I am being too fussy. SMH comment, "It's a boat Andrew, they are hand built you know, It's not a car".

Other Things that need doing or have been done by us.
Brass mushrooms adapted so they can be taken off for easy cleaning
Blacking came off when out in the ice (our fault) Boat reblacked by Hoo Mill, crap job, will have to go back to be done again. LT went back again and was reblacked. Not over convinced the boat was taken out of the water for the job. Will not return to Hoo Mill for any work in the future.
Toilet seat worked loose
Fridge low battery light comes on after only one night.
Mikuni on/off switch light goes bright and dim
Battery Charging needs tweeking
Water gauge not operating correctly
Rails fitted in bathroom, Bedroom, Galley, Over Morso in saloon, in Cratch (2)
Tiller holder fitted in engine room
Battery operated light fitted in cratch ( partial success )
Engine cover made
Side hatch Lexan panel storage covers made
Bow locker vents modified with wine bottle corks - Now dry all the time - In June 2003, corks removed. Rather have wet locker than gas build up for safety reasons.
Chimneys proved to be unacceptable, have purchased new ones with internal sleeves. These did not fit! The internal sleeve was too small for the hole coming up from the fires. Being modified (Now I know why SMH does not fit chimneys with internal sleeves).
3 Shelves fitted in bathroom cupboard.
April 2003 when LT returned to SMH, additional domestic battery fitted. Electrics working much better since. Folding step fitted to stern side. Much easier to climb on and off the roof. (To date 8/2/2004, no bill has been received from SMH for these items or the work).
Engine service completed. SMH forgot to put oil in then gearbox. Good job I checked!
May 2003 - Stern deck fitted with flexible tiles. Much safer.
June 2003, water gauge still sticking. Investigating. July, now seems OK.
Experience has shown much condensation in the cupboards. Large amount of absorption materials needed.
Getting fuel is an experience. The filler blows back unless the tank is filled very, very slowly. Apparently the breather pipe is too small. Fuel gauge is not very accurate.
2nd Oil change at 380 hours - 31/8/2003
1st September 2003 - Bottom blacked at Braunston. Excellent Job. We also had the bottom section of the stern counter blacked. This was painted red originally but due to the way the boat dips the stern in the water when underway, it was impossible to keep clean. Being blacked should protect the counter a bit more as well.
4/9/2003 - Ordered one clear and one green (same material as the cratch), covers for the houdini from A.J.Canopies, Braunston. Should stop a lot of the condensation and restrict the light at night in the summer. £130.00 for the pair.
14/9/2003 - A.J. Canopies have fitted the cover. Much too big and they have drilled holes in the cabin roof! Fittings removed and informed A.J. the job was not as requested and it should be redone. They agree, remake to correct size and fit properly. Condensation is reduced. Worth the expense. but not the aggravation!
14/9/2003 - Fitted Mastervolt inverter control panel. Not an easy task, instructions difficult to follow for a non expert. Eventually got some additional help from knowledgeable friends at the Cutweb Napton Rally who crimped and wired the shunt but even they got it wrong. Eventually got the connections correct some two weeks later. Now works fine and gives lots of information about the boat electrics £286.00 well spent.
2/10/2003 - Fitted cooker hob cover. £46.00
30/10/2003 - Refitted TV, Video, DVD and Freeview TV box in cupboard, wires all over the place but well hidden. All connected and working well. Rewired Inlander fridge to remove electrical sensor. Voltage dropout should now be 10.3Volts not the 11.7volts it was doing. This action recommended by Dave, Inlander engineer, who gave me very good instructions on how to do it.
Dec. 2003 - Purchased Francis Searchlight, circa 1962 ex lifeboat light, from ebay cost £137.00 including shipping. Replaced reflector £114.00, professionally polished and fixing collar for existing stand made for £35.00, 8 new bolts made £40.00.  |New rubber gasket was required to keep the reflector in place. The original one was no longer available, a replacement was made by glueing two rubber gaskets together. Works fine. Finally fitted 13 Feb 2004. Also Dec. Wendy made and fitted curtains in the boatmans cabin.
Dec 03 - Paint on stern deck and bow is bubbling again. There is also some bubbling on the stop beams. Unlikely Mr Hudson will do anything about it, so won't bother to ask. So much for Kevin's fantastic paintwork. Looks great for a few weeks, then starts to show what a crap painter he really is. It's then redone and a few months later is worse than ever! GRrrrrrrrr.
Jan 2004 - 3rd oil and filter change. Engine hours 489.
13 Feb 2004 - Fitted new rocker box cover and gasket to the BETA JD3 engine. The original one leaked through the casing. Replaced free under warranty.
